About Jill Ferrall

Born and educated in Tasmania, Jill Ferrall holds multiple degrees from the University of Tasmania, including postgraduate studies at the University’s Centre for the Arts (MCA). She has held numerous solo exhibitions across Tasmania and spent many years in Sydney, where she continued to teach and exhibit her work.

Now based in Wellington, New Zealand, Ferrall works across a variety of mediums including encaustic, fresco, paper, oils, and acrylics. Her practice is deeply informed by extensive travel and study, particularly in the areas of calligraphy and textile traditions among women in different cultures.

Through these influences, her work seeks to evoke a layered visual history—what she refers to as “the present moment of the past”—offering metaphorical records of memory, time, and cultural connection. Jill was also on the board of the Tasmanian Arts Advisory Board and Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery.
